Best Airtel Data Plans in Nigeria For March 2017

Image result for airtel
To ensure that this article is easy to navigate, I would be categorizing the subscriptions based on their validity periods.

Daily Plans

Prior to now, the norm is this category of data plans from Nigerian Mobile internet providers had been 10MB for ₦100, which honestly was pure BS! However, this is not the case with the following Airtel daily Internet bundles.
  1. 30MB for ₦100

Surprised?
Don’t be. You should be happy instead.
After giving us dog sh*t for years, Airtel has finally deemed it fit for us to taste ‘em bones.
I don’t think you get that analogy. 😛
Simply put, Airtel has bumped up the data allocated to the daily ₦100 plan all the way from 10 MB to 30 glorious MB!
This plan is valid only for 24hours and the subscription code is highlighted below.

  1. 50MB for ₦300

Although priced at ₦200 on their official web page, this plan will actually cost you ₦300.
Valid for 3 days, you can surf the internet with the 50MB allocated to you for ₦300. However, I advise you consider the next bundle (plan 3) before subscribing to this;
To subscribe Dial *412#
  1. 5-Star Pack 25MB (5MB daily) for ₦100

Although the data allocated to this bundle compared to the first bundle listed is small, I find this one particularly interesting.
For ₦100, you’d get 5MB every day for 5days to surf the internet.
This could particularly be useful for those folks (mostly old folks) who just go online to read “the punch” and check “who is doing birthday on Facebook today”.
To subscribe, dial *401#

Weekly Plans

Though they have two weekly data plans, only one is worth mentioning.
  1. 750MB for ₦500

For just 500 Naira, you can surf the internet for 2 good weeks with 750MB backing you thanks to Airtel’s “Easy” internet bundle. MTN has a similar data plan, but Airtel’s is better because of the 2 weeks validity.

Monthly Plans

Yes! We’re are down to the holy grail of internet subscriptions for Airtel.
Plans in this category are one of the best in Nigeria relative to what other Mobile Internet providers offer. Although most of them are Airtel Android data plans, they’ll work fine on any device.
  1. 1.5GB for ₦1000

Starting with the “cream of the crop”, Airtel offers you 1.5GB worth of data for ₦1,000. This plan is their Android 1.0 plan but as stated on their website, this plan works for all devices. I have tested it, and it truly works and unlike their blackberry plans, the data
consumption rate is reasonable.
What I mean is, you get an actual GB of data even when not on Android, and the plan is valid for one month.
To opt-in to this plan, dial *496#
  1. 3.5GB for ₦2000

Now that’s what I’m talking about!
For just ₦2000, you’d get more
than double the amount of the data allocated to the cash equivalent of the previous plan which is also valid for 30 days.

This plan is perfect for the everyday internet user who sometimes stream videos and download clips (Etisalat has a similar data plan too).
To subscribe, dial *437#

This plan is awesome no doubt, but before subscribing, have a look at the next plan.
  1. 5GB for ₦2,500

More like an extension of the previous data bundle, for another ₦500, you get an additional 1.5GB data allocated to you. In essence, for ₦2,500, you get 5GB to surf the web anyhow you want for 30 days.

If you’re someone like me, this would be the plan to go for as with 5GB, you can be sure that your data needs for the month have been taken care of.
To opt-in to this plan, dial *437*1#
  1. 7GB for ₦3,500

Power users will consider this a nice budget plan in that with this bundle, you can surf the net anyhow you want on your smartphone, stream YouTube till your battery bleeds or tune in to NetFlix any time you wish.
For ₦3,500, you get 7GB of data which is valid for just one month.
To subscribe to this bundle, dial *438#
Although the next 2 plans might not strike you as being “reasonable”, power users (bloggers and internet marketers alike) would find them interesting.
  1. 12GB for ₦5,000

Valid for 30 days, you can get a whopping 12GB for just ₦5000. This should be perfect if you’re an online freelancer or a “one-man-army” crushing it on the internet.
To subscribe, dial *452#
  1. 24GB for ₦8,000

Also valid for 30 days, you get a staggering 24GB for ₦8,000 to surf from dawn to dawn!
To opt in, dial *460#
  1. 250MB for ₦300

We’ve left the “GB” category.

This bundle is Airtel’s famous Opera monthly bundle – this bundle has actually saved my life a couple of times……………..
Let’s deviate a little

There was this one time that I was dead broke, but coupling Airtel’s Opera monthly plan (₦3H) and their WTF monthly plan (₦2H) I was able to stay online a full month (well 25days 🙄 ) for ₦5H.

The Opera bundle was for checking emails, Quora, Nairaland and my favorite tech blogs (God bless Alltop Tech), while the WTF bundle was for WhatsApp, Twitter & Facebook.

Now that you’ve seen the value of the plan, you should know that this plan only works for opera mini. Opera mini is very good at data compression, so trust me, if you are not downloading, 250MB will take you over a month.

See this:

opera mini data consumption
Yes, over 4GB incoming data compressed to under 500MB. If that’s not impressive, then I wonder what will be for you.

How to Check Your Airtel Data Balance.

Ah, very important!

It’s good you know how much data you’re left with so that you’ll know whether you need to reduce your usage (so you won’t run out of data) or increase it (so your data wouldn’t waste 😉 ).
Checking your data balance on Airtel is as easy as checking your normal airtime balance.
Just dial *140#
