Microsoft may release three new versions of Windows 10

Microsoft unintentionally released Windows 10 build 16212 for phones and 32-bit PCs last Friday, causing phones to crash upon booting up. It took some hours for the company to finally release a blog post explaining what happened and how those affected users should proceed.

But such a chaotic situation was also an opportunity for some Windows 10 users to take a look at what Microsoft is currently up to. This was the case of Twitter user AndItsTito, who spotted three new Windows 10 SKUs in the Windows 10 build 16212 pkeyconfig:
  • Windows 10 Pro for Advanced PCs
  • Windows 10 Pro N for Advanced PCs
  • Windows Server 2016 ServerRdsh
According to MSPU, "Windows 10 Pro for Advanced PCs was previously believed to be called Windows 10 Pro for Workstations".

If that is really the case, this new SKU may be optimized for multi-core PCs and aimed at Enterprise users. It's N version, as was the case with previous versions of Windows, would be commercialized in European Union countries, where Microsoft is obliged for more than a decade to provide users a media-player-free version of Windows.

Furthermore, since Rdsh stands for Remote Desktop Session Host, this version of Windows Server 2016 may be aimed at hosting Windows-based programs or the full Windows desktop for Remote Desktop Service clients.

This new SKU may target the educational sector and, according to AndItsTito, can also be upgraded to Windows 10 Education, another SKU already commercialized by Microsoft.

Finally, because those new SKUs were found in a Windows 10 Fall Creators Update build, we expect them to be released sooner than later. But of course, we will have to wait for Microsoft to acknowledge the existence of those new SKUs, since the company hasn't released any statement about them yet.
